Google's share of the U.S. search market was 64.2% per cent this April, with Yahoo and Microsoft 20.4% and 8.2% respectively, according to statistics published by comscore, the US Internet traffic monitoring agency. It is clear that Google has maintained its dominance in the U.S. search market. When new and old rivals like Microsoft, Yahoo and Wolfram want to bring Google down, they must take other devious tactics.

"If you want to compete with Google, the way forward is not feasible," said Calhoun, a Yankee technology analyst at US market research firm Carlhowe.

Since last February, Microsoft has repeatedly negotiated with Yahoo, hoping to combine the search business of two companies to launch a joint challenge to Google. Agavol says Bing will classify search results into different groups after users type keywords, and the results in each group are more relevant. As the corresponding search results have been generally categorized, users more convenient to use.

Agavol believes that Bing's search technology does have a significant improvement in itself, and if it is done properly, Bing will have a chance to become a necessary destination for Web surfers to search for in the future, like Google's homepage. Agavol said: "Microsoft Live Search did not succeed, the main reason is that its technology is not mature." Microsoft now believes that Bing technology itself is very strong.

A Microsoft spokeswoman declined to comment on Agavol's remarks. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is also invited to attend the D7 conference, which he will address at the conference on Thursday (US local time) when he is likely to reveal more about Bing Ballmer.

Yahoo adjustment

Yahoo has also made a number of functional adjustments to its search engine in recent years. The principle of adjustment is to make the return results page provide more information, that is, to return text, pictures, and questions to the user, not just some site links. For example, if a user types a keyword in StarTrek (note: Star Trek) on the Yahoo home page, the results will appear in the movie's production trailer, fan comments and other information.

Now Yahoo has started to apply the latest adjustment to the yahoo.com and other pages. Industry insiders believe that this way, it is possible to increase the number of Yahoo search users, thereby eating up some of Google's market share.

Feldman of IDC said: "The internet provides a lot of information, search engines to win users, must be in the first 10 return links to provide users with the most satisfactory results." If Yahoo search can do this job well, its user volume is bound to grow dramatically. Yahoo declined to comment on this view of Feldman.

Wolfram Shot

Wolfram was developed by Steven Wolfram (Stephenwolfram), a British-born computer scientist. At the beginning of March this year, Wolfram first disclosed the development of Wolfram, and said that Wolfram's working principle and Google Web search has a big difference. The service was officially launched in Monday.

Although the outside world has been called Wolfram Google Killer, but Wolfram spokesman Johan Equezea (Johnekizian) said, Wolfram itself is not a search engine, Wolfram can only be regarded as a supplement to search engine services, rather than the competitors of major search engines. We are committed to providing users with the answers to the query questions directly, which is the biggest difference between Wolfram and other search engines.

But industry insiders point out that although Wolfram is not enough to pose a real threat to Google, Wolfram's development is worth the attention of Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and other search engines.

"As far as traditional search engines are concerned, users have to find the right answers in a bunch of return links, so it takes a long time," said Andrullip Man, head of industry analysis at comscore Andrewlipsman. and Wolfram directly to the user to return the answer, so in a number of specific queries, Wolfram has a traditional search engine does not have the advantage.

Google countermeasures

For the challenge from Microsoft, Yahoo, and Wolfram, Google has taken a more proactive approach, not staying in place.

Yankee's Calhoun said: "The search market pattern is far from stereotyped, Google does not have the strength of all the other competitors." Because of this, Google is also actively strengthening the search technology research and development.

Marisa Mayer, Google's vice president of search products, said in an interview earlier that during the past year, Google has made more than 30 adjustments to its search products to further enhance the use of Google's search performance, the search market is still very competitive, So Google is also under a lot of pressure, and we're going to turn those pressures into power.

Still, some in the industry believe that Google's competitors are actively prepared, and hope to be able to steal some of the market share from Google.

Collinsstewart's Agavol said: "In the search technology itself, Microsoft and Yahoo have shortened the gap with Google, the next thing to see whether Microsoft, Yahoo can win enough users." In the search business area, the situation of diverse products is more beneficial to users.
