The Breakthrough Award is an award sponsored by Google's Brin, Mr and Mrs, Ali's Mr Ma, investor Yuri Milner and Facebook Zuckerberg and others. The prize is designed to honor scientists who have made science a lifelong career and a major breakthrough, with 3 million dollars per winner.
Last December 15, just unveiled 2014 years of basic physics and Life Science Breakthrough Award, a total of 2 people won the Basic Physics Breakthrough Award, 6 people won the Life Science Breakthrough award. At the ceremony, Zuckerberg and Milner announced the launch of the Math Breakthrough award. Today, the award winning list is published by the Breakthrough Prize Foundation, and the winners are as follows:
Simon Donaldson of Stony Brook University and Imperial Institute of Technology, the results are the discovery of the four-dimensional manifold invariants and the study of the relationship between algebraic geometry and the stability of integral differential geometry.
Maxim Kontsevich of the Institute of Higher Sciences in France has won awards for its far-reaching effects on algebraic geometry, deformation theory, Tuo flutter, homology algebra and dynamic systems.
Jacob Lurie of Harvard University has won prizes for the basic work of advanced category theory and derivation algebra geometry, for fully expanding the classification of topological quantum field theory and for interpreting the model theory of the coherent ellipse.
Tao of the University of California, Los Angeles, has won awards for many breakthroughs such as harmonic analysis, combinatorial theory, partial differential equations and analytic number theory.
Richard Taylor of the Institute of Advanced Studies has won awards for many breakthroughs in the theory of self-discipline.
Zuckerberg said:
Mathematics is crucial to the advancement and innovation of mankind this century. This year's winners have made a huge contribution to the field.
Milner commented that:
Mathematics is the most basic science and the language of all science. The best scientific ideas benefit all people by expanding the range of human knowledge.
The award ceremony will be held in November this year. The 5 will also form a selection committee to elect next year's winners.
