Erome Petazzoni is currently a senior engineer at the PAAs platform DotCloud, who is primarily responsible for OPS and technical support, as well as a preacher, nicknamed Master Yoda Yoda. Jerome is currently leading a team of engineers responsible for maintaining the reliability of the site. Before coming to the DotCloud platform, he was primarily responsible for building and operating a large Xen virtual host, at which point EC2 was only a "flat" name.

Jerome is very concerned about DotCloud's server operations, and he wants developers to feel the platform as a warm home, and has written many technical documents, technical guides, and simple applications that use the DotCloud platform. He is, of course, the most avid fan of the DotCloud platform. Jerome recently accepted the fifth annual Cloud Computing Conference Organizing Committee's invitation to become the cloud computing conference "heavyweight" speakers.

CSDN: Would you please introduce yourself first and tell us something about your background?

Jerome: I am currently in the DotCloud Management SRE team (Site Reliability UB, which is a very special name for development operations). DotCloud is a service provider with a PAAs platform headquartered in San Francisco. I've been responsible for development and system management, and I think that's the best place for me to work. I enjoyed working in Paris before I joined DotCloud. I used to write a geographic information management system for a fiber optic operator; built a private cloud infrastructure for many small companies, and worked with the video industry to build a streaming media system; I am also co-founder of a start-up company, Enix, a small and new hosting company, since 2004, has been providing Xen based hosting services.

CSDN: So what kind of platform is DotCloud platform? What features does the platform have?

Jerome: Simply put, the DotCloud platform automates the manual management that would otherwise require complex, large, paid software. It also provides a variety of monitoring, control and alerting functions. DotCloud runs on Amazon's EC2, but their abstraction level makes it theoretically possible to run on a variety of cloud services.

The DotCloud platform hosts thousands of applications, covering Python, Ruby, Node.js, JAVA, Perl, go, PHP, RABBITMQ, Redis, SOLR, Elasticsearch, MySQL, MongoDB , PostgreSQL and other languages and database products. It also means that, whether you're using a tool like PHP and MySQL with a lot of supporters, or a generation of products like Node.js and MongoDB, DotCloud can help you solve their collaborative work problems.

CSDN: From a technical point of view, what are your main responsibilities?

Jerome: I want to say, if you want to know about "vSERVER", "OpenVZ", "Solaris Zones" or "LXC" knowledge, and even want to learn more basic concepts, you can learn (almost) everything about Linux The internal structure of containers, how they work, what you can do with them, and why they are cool, of course, why they are sometimes not so cool.

If you want to know about PAAs (platform as a service) but don't know how it works, or if you are already considering deployment, I think I can help you.

CSDN: You mentioned "lightweight virtualization" in a speech, why do you say "lightweight virtualization"? What is "Heavyweight virtualization"?

Jerome: "Heavyweight" is by no means a derogatory! These are typical virtualization systems based on KVM, Xen, VMWare, VirtualBox, and more. "Lightweight" refers to OpenVZ, vSERVER, (LXC) Containers, zones and so on. I think that the "heavyweight" virtualization drives IaaS (the "cloud" we often say), while "lightweight" virtualization drives PAAs development, which facilitates a broader "cloud" deployment.
