Like the Hollywood romance movie's bad opening line, Brazil's "daughter country" town calls on all the best bachelors to come to a blind date ...

More than 600 women live in the Noiva do Cordeiro town in southeastern Brazil, where their age is mostly between 20 and 35. Now they offer invitations to potential suitors around the world, but please do not immediately pack up the parcels because this Brazilian corner town is really a daughter country.

Some women in the town of Noiva de Cordeiro have been married to families, but their husbands and more than 18-year-old sons are working far away from home and can only return home on weekends. This means that women's power dominates the remote community, and they control every aspect of their lives-from farm construction to town planning and even religious belief.

Locals say their towns are growing better. "There are a lot of things women do better than men," said Rosalee Fernandes, a 49-year-old aunt. Our towns are more beautiful, more organized and more harmonious under the domination of women. When a problem or argument happens, we try to solve it in a feminine way, trying to find consensus rather than contradiction, and we share a lot of things, even the land where we work. In us this few people compete with others, everyone for me, I for everyone. Our entire town recently got together to buy a big screen TV for the community so we can watch soap operas together. ”

Although the women in the town enjoy the lifestyle, one problem often haunts them. The 23-year-old Nelma Fernandes says her beautiful neighbour girl is nowhere to be found. "Here, the only single man we see is not married or has relatives, and everyone is a sibling," she said. I haven't kissed a man in a long time. ”

In 1940, an evangelical pastor, Anisio Pereira, married one of the 16-year-old girls as his wife and built a church in the growing community of people. However, he continued to enforce strict puritan rules prohibiting them from drinking, cutting hair, listening to music or using contraceptives.

When Anisio died in 1995, the women decided not to let men define their lifestyles anymore. The first thing they did was to abolish the biased religious beliefs he had built.

Rosalee Fernandes said: "God is in our hearts, but we don't think we need to go to church, let the priest witness our marriage or baptize our children." These rules are made by men. ”
