Multiplayer online (compiler/gmi) researchers at the DFC Intelligence Analysis agency today unveiled the group's global Gaming Industry report (including home computers, computer, portable and online social games). The report predicts that total sales of the global gaming industry will rise from $60.4 billion trillion in 2009 to $70.1 billion in 2015. DFC also believes that consumers ' propensity to buy will gradually shift from the traditional disc retailing approach to the emerging online paid downloads. "Judging from the whole industry, consumers are expected to become increasingly receptive to online spending because they can experience a lot of content for free," said DFC's analyst David Cole. "This model of profitability is likely to be more effective than the traditional retail model, because it can provide a small percentage of the factory's revenue faster. "The online revenues of PC games are expected to reach $20 billion by 2015, and home computer online revenues (such as PSN, XBLA, nware) are expected to double over the next five years," he said. "The online sales model is expected to spread from PCs to home hosts in the next few years, which will compensate for the loss of some retail sales," he said. "DFC also said in the report that overall market performance will continue to fall in the coming years, but the decline will gradually slow down from last year, and the market will gradually recover from 2013 to 2015." The current poor performance is mainly due to the slow pace of strategic steps by Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft's three main hosts, although the PC games and social games have grown considerably, but cannot stop the industry's overall performance from falling.
