On June 17, the United Nations (FAO), jointly with the Italian government and the UN Office for Disaster Reduction (UNCCD) in FAO, co-hosted the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought to celebrate the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought "To arouse member countries' attention to global climate change and land desertification, promote sustainable soil management, improve the living environment of mankind, and enhance their resilience. Maria Helena, Deputy Director-General for FAO's Natural Resources for Natural Resources, addressed Ms. MQ Semedo, stressing the need for sustainable human resource management in mankind, combating desertification and soil degradation and ensuring a sound living environment. The UNCCD Executive Director made a statement by video, by the Italian government and by UNCCD representatives from the FAO offices.
This was a side event of the 149th FAO Board of Governors. Some of the permanent representatives to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the FAO officials, and the personnel of our department attended the meeting.
