Corporate cloud and mobile security start-up Bitglass 25 million dollars

Bitglass, a start-up that provides corporate cloud and mobile data security, has just won a $25 million trillion round of funding.

The company, which specializes in cloud and mobile asset protection, was founded in 2013, and the founder is a continuous entrepreneur and CEO Nat Kausik.

We know that cloud, mobile applications, and BYOD (self-contained devices) have become business trends, but they bring management challenges to it, because traditional security technology is used to protect enterprise boundaries, but now networks, applications, and devices are already out of control in the IT department. The Bitglass solution is to break into the connection between the app and the enterprise server, monitoring, encrypting, or editing all communications based on it policies.

For example, when users log on to their salesforce.com account through a brand new ipad, Bitglass will open a protected channel for communication, encrypt sensitive documents and data, and ensure that the information is readable only to the user. Even if the user forwards these sensitive documents, the receiver is unable to read unless the other person has the user's password.

In addition, Bitglass can tamper with the documentation according to the IT rules established by the customer company to ensure that the user is smart enough to get the information that is allowed. For example, if the rule does not allow the user to see the customer's Social security number when downloading the customer data, Bitglass removes the information from the download material.

For it operators, Bitglass provides an intuitive dashboard to monitor the use of Google Apps, Box, and Dropbox applications.

You might think that Bitglass works the same way as a traditional VPN, because the latter also needs to encrypt the communication link. The difference, however, is that it does not require employees to log in to the protection channel to use the corporate network, but to take action when an employee's terminal accesses a protected server or service Bitglass.

The company earns its income through a monthly fee, which usually costs 5 to 10 dollars a month for each user. The company's clients are said to be in almost all vertical industries, but the company is not disclosing the actual number of customers.

The round was funded by SingTel Innov8, the investment arm of Singapore Telecom, and also by former investors NEA, Norwest and an unnamed large international bank. After this round of financing the company's total financing amount has reached 35 million U.S. dollars. The company currently has 40 employees, the proceeds of this round of financing will be used to enhance marketing, sales and research and development capabilities.
