The big background of all this is that there are thousands of third party health and healthcare software applications, medical devices collecting user health data, but the problem is that data cannot be centrally stored. Apple wants to do more than just serve as a data container, and is willing to help medical workers use the data to better monitor the condition of patients during their visits and improve the quality of diagnosis and treatment decisions.

Earlier, Apple had announced cooperation with Nike, Epic and the MAYP clinic. The Equine Clinic has a variety of mobile apps. Many of the big health-care systems currently using epic software will soon integrate health and fitness data from HealthKit into Epic's personal health file service MyChart, according to people familiar with the matter.
