Beijing time June 9 Morning news, according to foreign media reports, Twitter announced in Tuesday, will enable the official domain name abbreviation Service t.co to abbreviated all the links shared on Twitter.

From this summer onwards, when users share links via Twitter or third-party apps, the links will be indented slightly t.co/******. Jason Goldman, vice president of Twitter products, said the introduction of the official acronym service has 3 Jason Goldman. First, the service can help Twitter combat spam by accurately monitoring the release of each link. Second, this will help users better know where the links are pointing. Third, this will help Twitter better analyze Web site messages.

The service, which is currently activated only in 3 accounts, has been announced in advance by Twitter, says Goldman. Twitter wants to give developers more time to prepare before the service is officially launched.

It is doubtful that, after t.co is enabled, the user may not be aware of the existence of the service. This is because Twitter adds metadata to each message, allowing the client to display the original address of the link, even though the link will initially be routed through t.co. For example, if you share a link from techcrunch.com, a http://techcrunch.com will still appear in the Twitter message, but the link is actually routed through t.co.

In this respect, Goldman said Twitter's goal is not to build a brand around t.co, but to enhance the transparency of the links shared by Twitter.

The introduction of t.co is not good news for existing domain name abbreviations such as bit.ly, but it does not mean that these acronym services are about to die out. bit.ly's value-added services, such as analytics and customized abbreviated domain names, can still coexist with t.co, and users can use bit.ly to abbreviated domain names, says Goldman.

In practice, however, most users use bit.ly to abbreviated domain names because many Twitter clients set bit.ly as the default domain name abbreviation service. After the launch of t.co, there is no reason for users to use Third-party services, as Twitter has already done this work.

The introduction of the

T.co is not surprising. This March, Twitter enhanced its anti-phishing mechanism with a new domain name abbreviation service. Users and developers generally believe that Twitter will expand this service into a more generic domain name abbreviation service. Twitter confirmed the decision in April.
