On the same day, the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues held a seminar on "International Day of the World's Indigenous People" in the Auditorium of the Hamaseld Library at United Nations Headquarters on the theme "Indigenous peoples: human rights, dignity and self-development." On December 23, 1994, the UN General Assembly adopted resolution 49/214, which stipulates that August 9 will be "the International Day of the World's Indigenous People."
